Nicole Ari Parker was born in New York City. She is an American actor in stage and films. Her most notable role in the role of Teri an ardent attorney Teri Jospehson in the Showtime show Soul Food. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She was already exposed to a lot of travel and cultures from a young age. When she was seven through nine, she was a student at boarding schools in London. The family later relocated to Toronto where she lived through the majority of her childhood. Contractor was a classical ballet student in Toronto. She also excelled academically. The Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in the arts), Contractor studied both the theatre and dance. At 16 and after more than 10 years of dance Contractor realized she wanted to take up acting as a profession. She received a full-scholarship grant to pursue a degree at the University of Toronto after graduating. She earned a master's degree in theatre as well as a double major in sociology and psychology. Contractor attended the highly-regarded Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After one full year, she was given the lead part. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian theater critics were awed by her performance during 92 performances of the play. She was offered the opportunity to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory, which accepts only eight men as well as four female students to take a course in the art of classical theater.
